The change essay Margaret Meade once said “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world, indeed it is the only thing that ever was.” That quote explains that small groups have led to positive, negative or both types of change in the world. Like what happen on 9/11, flight 93 and all the gangs in the world.
An example of a negative change in the world was on 9/11 when 22 terrorists . they hijacked three airplanes and crash them into 2 places. They crash 2 into the twin towers and 1 into the pentagon by Muhamad Atta and his group Al Qaeda. This change the world in a negative way because about 3000 were killed and hundred of millions people were terrorize
Anoother exmple was flight 93 when a plane was highjacked by a couple terrorists from Al Qaeda and 44 people stopped it from crashing into the white house or the capital building. Instead the plane crashed into an abandoned coldmine. The main people were Todd Beamer, Mark Bingham and Jeremy Glick. This group stop the plane from killing hundreds of people. This made a positive change in the world.
An example of small groups who change the world but in a bad way are gangs. there are many gangs in the world. The most common gangs are ms13 bloods and crips and the bike gangs are hells angles. these groups do alot of crime they cheat steal kill and rape. They affect alot of pople by doing those crimes.
As Margaret Meade once said “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world.....' I think this statement is true many small group can change the world in a bad or good way. Like the three things I talk about
Should Chineese parents be so strict on their children. No they shouldnt be that much strict on their children. Should Chineese parents be the one to decide the future for their children. In the story Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mom by Amy Chua is talks about how Amy Chua is super strict on her children. In the passage "Why Chineese Mothers Are Superior" by Amy Chua talks about how thinks it is okay to be force her children to do things she want them to do. Amy Chua would critisize her children when they would get a "B". Amy would have a talk with the principal and tell them to make the class harder if her daughter would'nt bring up her grade. One day Amy sat with her daughter and made her sit down and play the piano for hours till she got it right. Her daughter would ask her if she may go to the restroom and Amy, the mom, would respond no. In the passage "Amy Chua Is A Wimp" David Brook states that Amy is a wimp. David Brooks and a large slice of educated America decided that Amy is a menace to the society. She doesn't let her children have a social life. Amy says "American parents lack authority and produce entitled children who aren't force to live up to there abilities. In Hanna Rosin's "Mother Inferior" talks about that there are a thousand ways a child's life can be diffiult, and its a parents job to help them navigate through. Hanna says that success will not make you happy and happiness is the great human quest. She also says children has to find happiness themselves and it is better to have a happy moderatly successfull child than a misserable achiever. "In pretty much every way I am the weak-willed pathetic Western parent that Ms. Chua explain" which means that she doesn't yell at her children and that she lets them participate in extra curricular activities. In "An Asian father's Gift:Permission To Fail" by Ilyon Woo the dad tells his daughter that is doesn't matter is she fails that it is not the end of the world. But she chose to do good, get better grades, and try harder. She ws under pressure and she thought her dad would get mad if she failed so she did better to make her dad proud I agree with her because Amy Chua loves and cares about her children, although it may seem that she doesn't. Amy Chua loves and cares about her children because she wants the best for her children. Another reason she want her children to be successful. If she wouldnt be so strict on her children then they woulnt have to the college that they are going to. These are the reason why I agree with Amy Chua's parenting skills. Now the reason why I disagree with her parenting are because she is way too strict with her children. like the time time when her daughter didnt know how to play the piano right and Amy didnt let her go the the restroom nor stop playing the piano. Although some people thinks she good mom i think she bad mom by abusing her children. She shouldnt need to scream at her children and insult her daughter when they get bad grades. We have talk so much about Amy Chua that i never want to hear her name again. Is she a good mom or is she a bad mom? My opinion is in the middle because she wants the best for her children, but she is a bad mom because the way she treats her children In the passage Medusa and the Snail by Lewis Thomas he explains how doing things wrong you can actually discover new things. I agree with Thomas that sometimes that you can make a mistake to discover. Failure can sometimes lead to something good.
I have experience failure in my life. Since im a goalie in soccer, I have made some mistakes. One day during my game they shot the ball at me and then i got confidence and put the BALL DOWN AND WAITED FOR SOMEONE TO COME AND TRY TO TAKE THE BALL AWAY FROM ME. THEN SOME PLAYER FROM PLAYER FROM THE OTHER TEAM CAME AND THE BALL AWAY FROM AND SCORED. NOW I LEARNED TO NEVER DO THAT AGAIN DURING A GAME.
Back in 1929 Alexander Fleming created something that changed the world. alexander was examining all the petri dish. he had not cleaned one of the petri dish. As he look at the petri dish is was killing all the bacteria. And that how penicilin was made. Although it was a mistake it came out to be something good. In the story to kill a Mockingbird Harper Lee, scout was getting into a lot of fights because people was talking about her dad defending a blackman. At the end Scout learned not to get into fight using her fists than talking out out using her head.
This is how sometimes when you make a mistake it can turn out to be good. Just like Alexander, he didnt expect for that to happen. I also didnt expect them to score on me when I did that stupid mistake. And now Scout is acting more like a lady when she learned how to talk it out not by fighting.
Christine Pelton found that 1/5 of her students were caught cheating. So she failed them. The principal and the superintendent agreed with Ms.Pelton. But the school did not agreed with her; they told her that to go easy on the guilty. I think it was wrong that they told her to go easier on her because they deserve to fail because they cheated.
If the student cheated they deserve an “F”. If the students cheat they won’t learn anything. So it was wrong when the school board told her to go easier on her students. The teacher should have the right to fail her students if they cheated. It is wrong giving credit to the people that cheated while other spent hard work getting the good grade the deserve.
Why should a student get credit if they cheated when they deserve a zero? It is not fair if only 4/5 of her students did the work and the people that plagiarize get credit. I think it was right that Christine Pelton resigned; she stood up for her beliefs.
I think Christine had the right to fail her students. Her students should have plagiarized in the first place. If they didn’t plagiarize they would have probably gotten a good grade in the first place. Now that school has a reputation of being cheat just because of those students that cheated.
